Private retrieval for sprawling archives
Find remembered details across years of notes, mail exports, Markdown, HTML and PDFs—without handing your history to a cloud or a chatbot.
Free core search · macOS, Windows and Linux
Built for the inconvenient truth that your useful history lives in more than one place.
Source-grounded by design
Local Data Finder is an index, not a new home for your information. Point it at the places you choose. It gives every match back with the path and extraction time needed to verify it.
Add only specific folders or explicit exports. Hidden folders and unsupported files are skipped.
Text is extracted on-device from Markdown, plain text, HTML, mbox and text-based PDFs. Mail attachments stay closed.
Filter exact lexical matches, read the surrounding evidence, then open the original local source.
…the final decision about the Northwind migration was to preserve the original export until validation…
A deliberate boundary
Indexing and search happen on your device. The app has no analytics SDK, user account, or corpus API.
You see every indexed source, its record count, extraction time, and parser errors. Removing it never deletes the original.
The Archive key encrypts extracted text and paths at rest with a password that is never stored.
Keep the tool, keep the index
Core local search is useful for free. An Archive key adds encrypted indexes and unlimited sources for long-running collections.
